HMUN DUBAI COMMITTEES

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The General Assembly encompasses all 193 Members of the United Nations, posing this unique forum at the deliberative, policy making, and representative core of the UN. Established under the original 1945 Charter of the UN, the GA was conceived alongside the birth of the UN and captures the all-encompassing spirit of multilateral discussion that motivated the formation of its parent international organization.

General Assembly committees are the largest at HMUN Dubai, with about 100 delegates. The GA gives delegates the opportunity to sharpen their diplomacy, speaking, and writing abilities.

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL

The Economic and Social Council is one of the six main organs of the UN, which is responsible for coordinating economic, social, humanitarian, and cultural activities. The Economic and Social Council brings countries together to collaborate to help improve standards of living, reach full employment, and achieve economic and social progress.

At HMUN Dubai, ECOSOCs are the second largest type, with around 60 delegates to a council. The ECOSOC gives delegates the opportunity to hone their research and debate skills while engaging in more focused research on a specific agenda, featuring only one topic option as opposed to the GA’s two.

CRISIS COMMITTEE

Crisis committees are the smallest and most dynamic types of committees, usually comprised of portfolios of various influential individuals as opposed to traditional countries. Crisis committees employ backroom elements, which allow delegates and the Crisis Director to alter the facts discussed in committee through directives and crisis notes.

At HMUN Dubai, our sole crisis committee will give a small group of delegates the chance to experience of the most exhilarating formats of debate simulation. With around thirty delegates, each delegate will have the opportunity to leave their mark on committee both through their speeches and their individual crisis paperwork — all entirely conducted in a historical setting.
