Letter from the Secretary General

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

It is my absolute honor to invite you to the sixth iteration of Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) Dubai set to take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2027!  

My name is Malak Sannoun, and I am a rising Junior at Harvard College studying Government and Philosophy hailing from South Carolina but my family is from Morocco, which is where I spend my time outside of school. My passion for being from the MENA region gives me the biggest pleasure to serve as your Secretary-General for HMUN Dubai 2027. I have been involved with Model UN on campus for the past 3 years, from competing as a delegate to serving on Secretariats. For me, MUN has given me a place to grow, inspire, and make lifelong friends, and I hope that HMUN Dubai can give you that same experience. 

As an extension of Harvard Model United Nations Boston, which is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious Model UN conference of its kind, HMUN Dubai is dedicated to fostering the same high caliber of debate and delegate experience. Over the past five years, the conference has brought together more than 2000 delegates over both virtual and in-person sessions, and I am thrilled to bring this experience to even more students this coming January as we expand our reach both within the United Arab Emirates and globally.

HMUN Dubai offers a dynamic mix of General Assemblies, Economic and Social Councils, and Specialized Committees, each designed to challenge students to think critically, communicate diplomatically, and collaborate across cultural divides. Throughout the conference, delegates will have the opportunity to explore some of the world’s most pertinent challenges and develop innovative solutions. With the vast range of committees to choose from, every delegate will find a space tailored to their interests and experiences.

However, the true HMUN Dubai experience extends far beyond the committee sessions. Set in the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant global cities, the conference also offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with an international community, attend sessions led by expert speakers, and participate in enriching cultural exchange. Led by Harvard undergraduates, both delegates and faculty advisors will enjoy an unforgettable experience and one that fosters lifelong friendships and meaningful memories.
